Happy David Bowie Day!

I’m starting something and I need your help. This time of the year is really short on holidays and I end up falling into the “too excited for Halloween too early” dilemma that happens every August. So I am going to combat that by revising the calendar and adding my own holidays to get excited for. Today is David Bowie Day. Is it his birthday? I don’t think so. I just declare that today, the eighteenth day of 2008 to be international David Bowie Day.

(the worst drawn party hat ever)

So this is where you come in. I want you to pick a day on the calendar and create your own holiday other than your own birthday. I will put it into my Outlook calendar and it will remind me a week before the day arrives. Then I will write a whole post dedicated to your holiday and we can all celebrate together.

So for now, you can listen to my favorite David bowie song, “Ashes to Ashes”. And tonight I am going to rock the Labyrinth and poke fun of Jarrad’s hilarious horse riding outfit, minus the horse. Happy David Bowie Day!

Happy David Bowie Day my friend!!
JoshC day is August 17th, a day for celebrating all things JoshC, like being self centered.

Today is the 18th day of 2008?

  2. DC · July 18, 2008

David Bowie rules. I have to watch Labyrinth again soon!

I want to declare the 5th of August Jean Claude VanDamme Day!😉

  3. DC · July 18, 2008

Oh, and Happy David Bowie Day!

  4. essaytch · July 18, 2008

Well, according to Hoops & YoYo, we’ve already got Spastic Colon Sunday, Tuesday Treat Day, Sarcastic Wednesday, Second-Guess Thursday, and I Don’t Care Friday (and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, SHAME ON YOU—Google it!).

Since Spastic Colon Sunday is already taken, I’ve got nothin’….

  5. dohopoki · July 18, 2008

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m going to be pissed if we forget again to celebrate August 18th, Slimermas, at the X-E Blog.

Also, just to throw out there, July 26th is patio day. If you have a patio, you have to sing the patio song at least once on it or it’s 3 weeks of bad patio.

  6. kittymao · July 18, 2008

    Happy David Bowie Day!
And I’ve never celebrated Slimermas- apparently it lands on my mum’s Berfday…

Aaaaaand… I want August 2nd to be “Backyard Camping” Day.
Pitch a tent in your backyard, light up the fire pit and sing songs, sleep in your tent under the open sky- it’ll be like camping only you can pee in your own toilet!

  7. Amy · July 18, 2008

July 28th is “Day I’m going to try to quit smoking” Day for me. You can all celebrate it with me if you want to. But be warned, I’ve celebrated this holiday several times a year on various dates. It’s kind of a floating holiday.

  8. DC · July 19, 2008

Amy: You can do it!!! I actually quit smoking 3-4 years ago! It’s hard, but it’s possible. I even don’t like when people smoke around me now. I believe in you! Give it a go. 😉

  9. JoshC · July 19, 2008

    Good luck Amy!!
I quit for a few years but unfortunately Im back on the horse.
You can do it, nicotines a wuss, kick his ass.

Happy David Bowie day. Great idea about the calendar
I would like to pick August 15th as Annie Lennox day.

  11. Galileo · July 19, 2008

Remember, September 19th is “Talk Like a Pirate Day!”🙂

  12. kristiane · July 19, 2008

Well, Happy David Bowie Day to you too.

Galileo, I always remember that day, it is also my parents anniversary. My dad had me convinced when I was 5 that he was a pirate, so it’s fitting.

  13. Faith · July 20, 2008

This post reminds me of the book “Happy Cruelty Day” by Bob Powers. Probably the funniest book ever. But you don’t have to take my word for it…

  14. shuanfu · July 20, 2008

Yeah I read “18th day of 2008” and thought “how fucking long did I sleep last night?!”

    and David Bowie if awesome…

    “bye bye, David Bowie!….”

  15. shuanfu · July 20, 2008

I realized when I typed “bye bye David Bowie” no one would get it soooo….

Bill if your watching David Bowie stuff, you need to watch this….

  16. Allison · July 20, 2008

I loved Labyrinth when I was a kid. Still do, but that’s about it for Bowie and me.

  17. Pammy Girl · July 21, 2008

The first album I ever bought was Bowie’s 1983 album “Modern Love”. He’s the only rock star I’ve forgiven (and excused) for his snaggle teeth.

I make up my own holidays all the time… great excuse to go shopping. Today was “get yourself and manicure and shoulder massage” day.

  18. romi41 · July 21, 2008

ooooh….I love this idea, and I love how you’re actually going to celebrate our holidays!

Well…I know the egotistical thing to do would be to choose a day that’s upcoming in 2008, because it’s that much sooner to forcing you to recognize and celebrate my holiday, but NO, I am going to be okay with missing 2008.

SO.. I choose February 21st as “Stick Your Face in a Cake Day!”…and the why on the “When”? Because it’s a week after the holiday that I find oh so unnecessary and cheap (i.e. if you REALLY love someone, get them a card or some chocolate or some “lovin” on any old day….right? RIGHT). And the why on the “What”? Well, I find that sticking your face in a cake is a super-fun thing that would 100% make you laugh, and also you get to eat cake. I just think that we’re always encouraged to 1. be serious and 2. eat less things like fatty cake in our lives, so this kills two birds with one stone.

Thank you, and I’ll meet you at the cake shop on the 21st😉

Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing
very good results. If you know of any please share. Many thanks!

She fidgets in her chair and wrings her hands as she expresses feelings of
powerless over her inability to control her son’s fate.
This really is excellent for me simply because I am an excellent fit for this role.
It’s also been noted that liars use fewer contractions: “I did not have sex with that woman.
